Gotterup gets 'er done
Chris Gotterup continued his excellent form, lifting and separating from most of the field to win the Sony Open in the challenging wind at Waialae. He wins $1.6MM for his efforts and has already got the pundits gushing about a breakout season coming. Ryan Gerard made a nice effort to put some pressure on Gotterup but ultimately came in two shots back in solo second place.
Only 8 teams selected Gotterup in our league this year, and just 5 picked Gerard. Of those teams, only Always 3 Putting paired them together so they earn a comfortable victory for the week and stake an early claim on the #1 overall spot. With 35 more tournaments to go, that spot is anything but secure but it’s a nice way to start the year.
Some administrative details:
I mentioned last week that we had 218 total teams. Turns out the total number is 219 - there was one lineup sent and paid for before the Thursday deadline, but the email got hung up in the ether somewhere on it’s way. Shortly after I sent out the team list, the owner of “MN Daycare Millionaire“ contacted us to say he didn’t see it in the team listing. He was able to show us proof of sending the email before the deadline and we verified that we had received payment days earlier so we accepted the lineup. For those curious, that team made…$0 at the Sony.
With 219 teams, we will pay out the top 37 places in the overall leader board at the end of the BMW Championship.
