Aaron asks "Rai not?" as he runs away from the field on the second nine holes
What a show from Aaron Rai! In a week filled with complaining from the big names about “absurd” pins and tricked up holes, Aronimink delivered the goods with a stern-but-fair test.1 The course and setup favored the bombers and the tucked pins meant most played away from danger, which turned it into a little bit of a putting contest. Rai is one of the shorter hitters on tour and one stat I saw posted had him ranked at 141st in putting over the last year. None of that mattered today, as he went out and gained 7 shots on the field over his last 10 holes (that’s a lot). Just an awesome performance all around.
Only two teams added Aaron Rai to the roster this year, and Brooks Knows 2 teamed him up with Ludvig, Scottie and Spieth which was enough to beat out Amen Corner Aces by a little more than $200k and take the $300 prize for winning a Major. They move up from 155th to 98th overall. Amen Corner Aces gets the $100 second place prize and moves up from 180th to 135th in the overall standings.
Herbert’s Hackers 1 maintains the overall lead but there is a new challenger as STRO/CHAP jumps from 4th to 2nd and is just $2 Million behind as we head into our last 16 tournaments…
1 Maybe the most famous professional golfers aren’t the best opinions to seek out about what makes a good tournament/test?
