Cam Young goes wire-to-wire despite calling a penalty on himself

The return on the dubiously-named “Blue Monster”1 course was…underwhelming at best. Sandwiched in a terrible spot on the calendar2 , the course didn’t really offer much of a challenge to the gang, or much excitement to the (few) viewers or (even fewer) fans onsite.

That said, the two best golfers in the field topped the leader board, with Cam Young pulling out the 6 shot victory and adding $3.6MM to his yearly total. This despite proving himself an honorable golfer and calling a penalty on himself in the second fairway after his ball moved forward as he addressed it. No one else saw it move, but he called in the Rules Official anyway and was assessed a 1-stroke penalty. This had a chance to add some early drama to the round…but Young snuffed that out just as quick by hitting the green and knocking in the putt to save par.

As we know from the Players write up, nine teams picked Cameron Young this year. Of those, eight added Scottie to the squad, so - as ever - it came down to who else was in play. Miles City Mulligans had Adam Scott and “Award Winner” Sepp Straka who finished T4 and brought in $826k each, for a total Team earning of $7.4MM. This moves them up from 41st to 8th overall. Herbert’s Hackers 1 retains a ~$3.6MM lead at the top of the overall board.

Next up, the Truist Championship…

Sepp Straka was the real winner this week, taking home this award 😂

1  59 of the 72 players finished under par despite the course being stretched out to 7,739 yards, and the field was a combined -330 strokes under par. Doesn’t seem very ‘monstrous’. Time to roll back that equipment…

2  Why are we going back to Florida in May? Why is it the first of two Siggies immediately before the PGA Championship, leading many of the top guys to skip it? The whole point of the Siggies was to have the top guys playing against each other more and paying them handsomely to do so.
